OSHA defines the breathing zone as a ten inch radius around the worker’s nose and mouth, and requires worker exposure samples to be collected in the breathing zone. Traditionally only a single gas monitor was small enough to be worn there. The RKI GX-3R is a 4-gas monitor smaller than many single gas monitors.
It weighs only 3.52 ounces and clips comfortably within the breathing zone (2.2 in W x 2.55 in H x 1.02 in D). It monitors and displays LEL combustibles, O2, CO (hydrogen compensated CO also available) and H2S at once.
The GX-3R uses a new generation of micro sensors. The LEL sensor has two active filaments to increase its resistance to silicone poisoning: if one is poisoned, the second takes over. The electrochemical O2 sensor has a 3 to 5 year life, and H2S and CO are available in a combined micro sensor.
The non-compliance indicator flashes the 3 LEDs every 30 seconds (adjustable) if the instrument has not been bump tested, calibration is due or there was a gas alarm event, until the condition is resolved.
